Take Charge and Keep your Pipes Safe

Its Cold again keep your home safe with these simple steps

Here are some steps you can take to prevent your pipes from freezing during cold weather:

  1. Keep your thermostat at a consistent temperature: Keeping your thermostat set to a consistent temperature can help prevent your pipes from freezing. If you are leaving town keep the furnace on and thermostat set to 55 farenheit minimum.

  2. Insulate your pipes: Wrapping your pipes in insulation can help keep them warm and prevent them from freezing. You can use foam pipe insulation or electric heat tape to wrap your pipes.

  3. Drip your faucets: Letting your faucets drip slightly can help keep water moving through the pipes, which can help prevent them from freezing.

  4. Open your cabinets: If you have pipes running through unheated areas of your home, such as your basement or crawl space, open the cabinets to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes. This can help prevent them from freezing.

  5. Disconnect your garden hoses: If you have outdoor faucets, be sure to disconnect your garden hoses and store them in a safe, dry place. This will help prevent your outdoor faucets from freezing and bursting.
